Breast Milk University And HerWellness Are Partnering In 2019!
This year has already started out in a great way. Breast Milk University is excited to announce that this year we have chosen a wonderful cause to give back to called HerWellness. It is our mission to always support education and resources for our breastfeeding families and the communities they live in.
We are officially partnering with HerWellness, a digital platform and home health women’s wellness and parenting resource that offers support, guidance, advocacy, and education. Breast Milk University has designed two t-shirts for HerWellness and 100% of the proceeds will go towards the fundraising campaign. We are also offering our design services to HerWellness for their social media platforms. We believe in the future of HerWellness and its mission to help breastfeeding families globally. Women are silently suffering during pregnancy, birth, and the postpartum period. The lack of healthcare providers taking these issues and concerns seriously is alarming.
The mission of HerWellness is to bridge the gap in women's healthcare by addressing harmful practices, discrimination, shortages in health care, and unfair treatment. Women are going unheard and it is time we demand better care. HerWellness is fundraising to build software technology, support centers, and in-home visitation consultations during the most pivotal times these disparities occur most: pregnancy, birth, and postpartum.
Harmful practices in health care, like the miseducation of breastfeeding and postpartum depression, put women at risk during the postpartum period. Discrimination based on race, ethnicity, language, socio-economic or indigenous status results in unfair treatment and may make women not seek medical care. Shortages in healthcare leads to less support, less essential supplies, a lack of providers who speak preferred languages, and less community-based facilities.
The first goal of HerWellness to provide insurance covered doulas, midwives, lactation consultants, mental health experts, and more for women during their pregnancies, birth, and postpartum period for in-home visitations. Each major city will have a chapter center that provides a space for the women to receive local support, guidance, education, and advocacy. The second goal of HerWellness works only from evidence-based research and will have a Lactation Research and Development center. In addition to the home visitation and research center, the third goal is the HerWellness App. It will provide online tools and information for parenthood, motherhood, early childhood development, conception, pregnancy, birth, postpartum, reproductive health, safety courses, mindfulness, daily exercise and nutrition, and more. We will provide a space for women to feel safe and support each other through our online forum.
With the research and data showing the disparities among groups of women, it is the duty of HerWellness to make sure us women are being heard by our healthcare teams and holding them accountable for the lack of basic care we deserve. And at the same time, arming ourselves with education about our own bodies and choices. I hope you will consider joining the cause and supporting HerWellness by sharing, inviting, or donating $5, $50 or $500. Every action helps!
